| "Bringing our community together through volunteerism." |
July 1, 2010
Hello,
The dust is beginning to settle since the City was recently named one of only
10 All-America Cities by the National Civic League for 2010, but the excitement
continues to build.
Earning All-America City honors during these difficult economic times is a real
plus for Chandler. It is it is one of the most prestigious awards a community
can receive, and the national cachet that comes with an All-America title has
helped communities win grants and attract employers.
The award is given to communities that demonstrate innovation, inclusiveness,
civic engagement, and cross-sector collaboration in successfully addressing
pressing local challenges. Chandler's application and presentation to the
judges focused on three community projects: the ICAN underage drinking task
force; the Chandler CARE Center, a health clinic for students; and the Chandler
Heights Community Facilities, which include an environmental-education center,
police substation, and wetlands. Of course, there are many other projects and
organizations in Chandler that are making a difference and would have met that
criteria.
In difficult times it is important to count our blessings and focus on good
news and our positive accomplishments. Chandler is blessed with good people who
work together to improve our community and build a better future for our
children. Chandler is truly the epitome of an All-America City, and all or your
organizations share in this recognition. We hope you will help us tout this
great honor to your customers, clients, students and congregations and others
and show your community spirit in the coming weeks and months.
For example, click on the links for Chandler All-America City logos (click Here for color and Here for black
and white) that you can use in your publications, advertising, websites, social
media pages, facilities and bulletin boards. Or if your house of worship,
school or business has an outdoor message sign, please consider posting a
congratulatory message to the people of Chandler during the month of July and
beyond. See the image below for examples.
And, finally, the City will hold a community celebration at 6:30 p.m. on
Friday, July 30 at the Chandler Center for the Arts. We hope you can join us.
Thank you, for all you do for this great All-America City!
Sincerely,
Mayor Boyd W. Dunn
